ISAM 2026 Congress – Taipei, Taiwan

What better way to start the new year than by making your plans for ISAM 2026?

The 26th International Society for Aerosols in Medicine (ISAM) Congress will take place July 13–16, 2026, in Taipei, Taiwan, and we are excited to announce that abstract submission and registration are now open.

After nearly three decades, ISAM returns to Asia, showcasing the latest advances in respiratory drug delivery, inhalation toxicology, and digital health. Bringing together experts from 15 countries, this Congress marks the first ISAM meeting held in Asia in over 30 years and proudly features strong representation from the Asian scientific community alongside international leaders. We warmly invite researchers, clinicians, industry leaders, and trainees from around the world to join us for a truly global congress in the heart of Taipei.

Scientific Program Highlights

ISAM 2026 will deliver a dynamic, interdisciplinary scientific program spanning fundamental aerosol science, translational engineering, clinical practice, and regulatory perspectives. Sessions are designed to foster cross-sector dialogue and highlight both established and emerging areas shaping the future of aerosol medicine. The scientific program comprises eight thematic sessions spanning six networking group topics, three flash talk sessions, and a Best Oral Presentation session highlighting exceptional research.

Abstracts are invited for poster presentations and flash talks, providing opportunities to showcase cutting-edge research, highlight emerging ideas, and elevate early-career investigators and trainees. Chaired poster sessions will serve as a central hub for scientific exchange and networking throughout the congress, offering participants a valuable opportunity for in-depth, face-to-face scientific exchange with authors in a collegial and collaborative environment.

ERS

The European Respiratory Society (ERS), the world’s largest respiratory medicine congress, was held in Amsterdam from 27 September to 1 October 2025. As the leading global membership organization in aerosol science and inhalation medicine, the International Society of Aerosols in Medicine (ISAM) has regularly engaged with ERS for over a decade to represent and promote our discipline.

It was therefore rewarding to see these efforts reflected across the five-day programme this year, with diverse inhalation-related disciplines featured in posters, oral sessions, and symposia covering:

  • Inhaled drug formulations
  • Environmental bioaerosols
  • Lung in silico modeling and respiratory physiology to assess drug delivery
  • New propellants for metered dose inhalers (MDIs)
  • Intranasal vaccines and digital inhalers
  • Emerging opportunities for inhaled drug delivery to treat respiratory disease

Sessions were highly engaging, bringing together clinicians, respiratory healthcare professionals, critical care specialists, aerosol scientists, inhalation toxicologists and engineers, pharmaceutical scientists, and regulatory and product development experts. A highlight was the long-standing Tuesday lunchtime Inhalation Symposium, now in its 10th year, which ISAM helped establish over a decade ago and which remains a regular feature of the ERS scientific programme.

ISAM was again well represented this year. In the enclosed photo, ISAM Board Members can be seen reconnecting at the congress:

  • Monbi Chakma (Young Investigator Board Member), who presented her work on “Dry powder inhaler resistance: understanding patient preference and confidence using the In-Check DIAL.”
  • Omar Usmani (Past President), who delivered a presentation on “Choosing the right inhaler and implementing improved inhaler technique in the clinic.”
  • Sabine Häussermann (President-elect), who engaged with new scientific insights being presented at the congress to help inform evidence development initiatives in her role as newly appointed Chief Scientific Officer of VisionHealth.

ISAM maintains a joint membership arrangement with ERS. When joining ISAM, members may add ERS membership at a discounted rate of 30 Euros per year (approximately 35 USD), compared with the standard ERS membership fee of 200 Euros per year. The extensive benefits of ERS membership for scientists, clinicians, regulatory professionals, and industry experts are outlined on the ERS membership page.

Looking ahead, the ERS Congress 2026 will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 5–9 September 2026. Members of the ISAM Board will again be in attendance and hope to organize an ISAM member meet-up. Further details can be found on the ERS Congress website.
