Our Events

ISAM hosts an International Congress every two years, with the latest event held in Saarbrücken, Germany, in August 2023. The upcoming Congress will take place in Washington, DC, in June 2025. For more details, please visit our website. In the years between, we organize Regional Congresses and Focus Symposia on specific topics, along with a series of webinars to promote education and share the latest scientific research with our members. If you have a special interest in aerosols, consider becoming an ISAM member.

ISAM monthly Webinars

ISAM webinars are open to all ISAM members and are more specifically intended for early career / young researchers and clinicians in the field of aerosol medicine. The ISAM Webinars are facilitated by ISAM board members. We are recording our Webinars and make them available to our Members on this website. We are continuously screening publications and presentations to present state-of-the-art content in our monthly Webinars.

Events of ISAM Partner Societies

ISAM has wide range of international and national parter societies in the field of respiratory and aerosol research. Our society partnerships strengthen our society and build global networks to exchange knowledge and improve access to our activities, events and other opportunities. With our joint-membership agreement with the European Respiratory Society (ERS) we offer access to the largest respiratory scientific society and the ERS event platform.

Aerosol School offers insight into the world of Medical Aerosols

Aerosol School is an intensive three day curriculum designed to provide the didactic background and practical laboratory hands-on experience to quantify and characterize medical aerosols. Upon completion of the program, participants should understand the measurements and techniques utilized in commercial pharmaceutical and biotech laboratories as well as academic research. The curriculum is a perfect primer for anyone interested in measurements of medical aerosols, whether for industry or clinical research.

The ISAM/St Joseph’s Healthcare/McMaster University Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health’s (FIRH) Aerosol School is a three day teaching program, led by Prof. Myrna Dolovich (1st row, 3rd from left), offering expert information and training in the field of medical aerosols. Through the program, participants learn the range of

  • measurements, techniques,
  • approaches to drug development,
  • inhaler design used in academic laboratories and pharmaceutical industry aerosol labs.
In 2018, the program ran from October 3rd to 5th with faculty members representing aerosol scientists, engineers and clinicians. The program offers a wealth of knowledge through the two components of the program: lectures and in-lab learning. Program fees, which are waived for up to five students, cover copies of the course material, a USB key that contains more information and a 1-year membership in the International Society of Aerosol Medicine (ISAM). ISAM is comprised of aerosol experts who are dedicated to all aspects of aerosol research in medicine. In the ten years that this program has been running, approximately 200 students have completed the training, many of whom have come from as near as the USA and as far away as Sweden, Mexico, Brazil, UK and Taiwan.
