ISAM Welcomes Dr. Thomas G. O’Riordan as new Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Aerosol Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery

ISAM welcomes Dr. Thomas G. O’Riordan as the new Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Aerosol Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery. Dr. O’Riordan  formally started in his new role on March 1st, 2022.

Dr. O'Riordan is Vice President US Medical and Therapy Head for Respiratory at GSK and has previously worked at Sanofi and Gilead. Tom graduated from University College Dublin with an MB BAO BCh and an MD and from University of Washington with an MPH. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine and served on the fulltime pulmonary and critical care faculty at University of Miami and Stony Brook University, where his academic research was on aerosol deposition and mucociliary clearance.

Dr. Thomas G. O’Riordan is taking the reins from founding Editor-in-Chief Dr. Gerry Smaldone, who launched the journal over three decades ago. Gerry will continue to help Tom during the transition.

We welcome Carsten Ehrhardt as Associate Editor of the Journal of Aerosols in Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery. Carsten is Professor in Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin. Carsten takes over the Associate Editor position from Timothy E. Corcoran.

On behalf of the Society for Aerosol Medicine, we would like to recognize the contributions and accomplishments of Gerald Smaldone, who has served as Editor of the Journal of Aerosol Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery since the journal’s founding more than 30 years ago. During all these years, Gerald was an ex-officio member of the board, assisting with all the historical and other information.

We also thank Timothy E. Corcoran for his great contributions as associate editor and ex-officio member during many years.
